HEY YOU-
Public service announcement poster

Project Brief
This project is from a typography class I took. We were challenged to design a six-word public service announcement in the form of a poster. The posters are now hanging in the windows on the first floor of the School of Art at University of Washington. As we all are working/ learning from school, we feel dependent on screens. We feel anxious when we are offline, that we are missing out important messages. The message here is to remind my fellows at school or whoever passes the building to break away from screens.
This poster is meant to say “It’s okay” to all those who are stressed out and getting fatigued by screens like myself, and encourage them to break away a little.
How I got here
This project is about integrating type and image in a large format. There are 3 layers of informations here for people viewing from different distances:
30' (something that encourages them to come closer)
10' (people will be able to read something or glean more from the poster, and be curious enough to stop and look more closely)
3–5' (details, final content delivered — can't get much closer than 5' since there is a row of bushes in front of the windows)

I chose those particular typefaces for the  ‘hey you’ and the ‘break away’ to create a vertical and horizontal contrast, which matches the theme ‘break away’. And even the words don't say ‘screen’, I used the glitch effects to create a screen-ish vibe.
